ANGMERING BAPTIST CHURCH.

From Saturday 9th September we begin a series of features that will take place on Saturday mornings. Short films and documentaries that look at people’s questions about God and the Christian Faith. Refreshments are served after each presentation. Attendance is not required for all features, just turn up as you wish. Suitable for teenagers and adults. 10.00am prompt start. No charge. All are welcome:

9/9/23 ‘Is God past His Sell-By-Date?’ (58 mins). This title reflects the most important question anyone could ever ask- ‘Does God exist?’ Dr John Blanchard concentrates on three pieces of evidence that all people accept as being relevant, and then goes on to show these inescapably point to the God revealed in the Bible.

16/9/23 ‘Programming of Life’ (45 mins). Information is an essential part of our lives. The DNA code in every cell and all living things. Learn how the attempts to account for this through chemical evolution conflict with Information Science. DNA points to a Designer. Stunning graphics.

23/9/23 ‘The Designer World’ (54 mins). Stuart Burgess, Professor of Engineering Design at Bristol University, describes how the earth is intricately designed for life, and especially designed for all the varied needs of human beings.

30/9/23 ‘Set in Stone’ (58 mins). Modern geology supposes our world is over four and a half billion years old and earth’s geological features sculpted over eons of time. Michael Portillo on a ‘great train journey’ to Siccar Point in Scotland quoted the pioneering naturalist James Hutton to this effect. In this presentation three geologists visit Siccar Point and other UK locations to provide powerful visual evidence to the contrary. Rapid catastrophic processes were responsible for rock formation. Findings in keeping with the world wide flood described in Genesis.

7/10/23 ‘Refutations of World Religions’ (60 mins). In this fascinating talk Bodie Hodge compares the uniqueness and truth of Christ and Biblical Christianity with all other religions.

14/10/23 ‘Where is God when things go wrong?’ (60 mins). We live in what has been called ‘a world with ragged edges’. Earthquakes, volcanoes, floods and other natural disasters kill millions and injure countless others. Accidents also claim an untold number of victims. Yet the Bible claims God is in sovereign control and ‘works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will’ and that He is ‘compassionate and gracious’ and ‘abounding in love.’ Dr John Blanchard looks at this question.

21/10/23 ‘The Story of Eric Liddell’ (78 mins) The Oscar winning ‘Best Picture’ Chariots of Fire told the story of a courageous Scottish runner who won gold in the 1924 Olympics. This production traces Eric Liddell’s boyhood, rise to athletic fame and his years of missionary service in China. A man of deep conviction who remained committed to God even during his final days in a Japanese internment camp during World War II

28/10/23 ‘Jacob’ (90 mins). This feature film is from the ‘Bible Collection’- the largest television production ever undertaken. Viewed in more than 140 countries worldwide, it is an epic retelling of the greatest stories ever told. This episode stars Matthew Modine, Sean Bean, Lara Flyn Boyle and Joss Ackland, and follows the conflict between two of the Bible’s most famous brothers, Jacob and Esau.
